"There has never been a time when I did not believe in myself. It was, sometimes, a difficult thing to do, especially when obstacles getting bigger, and resources were not available. The one thing that has always kept me going, is being able to make music."
Freddie Foxxx
"Knowing your craft is always a good thing, but knowing how to have the conversation takes things to a different level. Talk with the masters about the craft, and become a master yourself. There is a lot to learn from prior experiences. Mr. Ray Parker Jr. is a true master."
Freddie Foxxx
"Practice, practice, practice. Nothing will come to you easy, and you must sacrifice some of the things you want to do, for some of the things that need to be done. If you work on being great, you have a better chance at it."
Freddie Foxxx
"I'm from the era of writing rhymes, and raps. Something about writing down my thoughts, feels more personal to me than typing them into a cell phone app."
Freddie Foxxx
As a longtime fan of Martial Arts, it was always a dream of mines to be in a karate movie. Making music made that dream come true, when I shot the video for my first single from the "Freddie Foxxx Is Here" album, in 1989.
I was fortunate enough to work with the legend, Professor Toro Tanaka, who not only choreographed the fight scenes, but also starred as the villain.
"Attach your dreams and aspirations to your creative battery, and watch the magic happen. Remember to be grateful."
Freddie Foxxx
Someone asked "bumpy, why do you dress like a janitor on stage," I said "because I come to clean house." As talent fades, the costumes become more elaborate, as to divert the conversation from your lack of talent, to your strange behavior.

"True producers know the value of working with a great writer, and vocalist, just like a great writer, and vocalist knows the value of working with great producers. These types of energies you cannot fake, it's either there or it's not." Photo: DJ Pete Rock (left) DJ Premier (right)

A powerful question can be followed by a powerful story. I asked the great singer, songwriter Mr. Smokey Robinson, "what was it like being an artist when you started?"
His answer was an epic picture of a time when things were different, yet the same. Methods of making music have changed, but the business practices have not changed much.
"Speak with the masters."
Freddie Foxxx
"I'm from Long Island, New York, and I am standing on stage in Lithuania performing songs that this crowd knows the word to."
That is what I was saying in my head at that moment.
Freddie Foxxx
"Learn to never accept someone else's idea of who you are." Many times, people will try to bestow upon you, their idea of who you are, often in the form of a compliment, intending to help you to accept it easier. Music helps to curate a multitude of ideas into one sonic presentation of those ideas, but who you are, seals the deal.

"I've taken the stage with many of the greatest MC's, and the prize was, that the people who watched the show, never forgot that I was there."
Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knuckles
It's more than just saying the line to me, it's the distance from the microphone in the booth when you deliver it, it's the pressure from your chest when you spit the phrase, it's the intention with which you express the feelings, it's control you have of the flow, and the power you add to the song. I do me.
Freddie Foxxx
The most important part of the experiences you have, are the lessons that you learn, and apply moving forward. There is something powerful about not making the same mistakes over, and over. If you can move through the ranks with minimal damage, and multiple lessons, that is to be applauded, because there are people whose goal every day is to destroy the roads you travel, and make it more difficult for you to get through. Sports figures train, scholars study, and if you're serious about becoming great at what you do, it is imperative that you work at it every day. I have shaken hands with people who were using those same hands to pray for my downfall, not sure who they were praying to, but I am thankful to still be here.
Freddie Foxxx
"Know where you're going, and where you come from."
